ZIPP 404 FIRECREST DISC TUBELESS CLINCHER REAR WHEEL
ZIPP 404 FIRECREST DISC TUBELESS CLINCHER REAR WHEEL

Zipp’s expanded disc brake wheelset lineup now includes a 404 Firecrest Disc Brake Tubeless Clincher Wheelset. Now that you have a disc brake bike, your friends and opponents are going to regret it when you install these wheels. While this wheel is tough enough for gravel grinding and cyclocross, it is best utilized as a road racing wheel, hoops you want to use in crits, in flat to rolling road races, and in rolling time trials. Triathletes who fear getting buffeted by the wind, can run the 404 front with a deeper rear, or two 404’s and get lots of speed while not worrying at all about side winds. While the Firecrest name has been retained from the rim-brake carbon clincher of the same depth, and the design principles remain the same, the rim has been largely redesigned around the needs of wider and tubeless tires as well as braking needs. The third-generation ABLC dimples on the rims, the pattern of which is specific to the 404 depth, have been extended all the way to the tire. This is because there’s no more brake track. Material has also been moved around because the brake track isn’t necessary. The depth remains 58mm, but the max rim width has been nipped in to 26.4mm down from 26.53mm. The internal rim width is 19mm, up from 16.25mm. This 19mm width means that you should use tires no narrower than 23mm, and that the width has been optimized for 25mm wide tires. If you want to take these off road, because you’ve put them on your adventure bike, have no fear. Zipp has confidence in their wheels for off-road applications. When the embarked on creating their first carbon clincher, they benchmarked aluminum rims, knowing they had to make something stronger before they’d feel comfortable releasing the wheel to market. They exceeded aluminum rim strength and then some. Zipp employs their 77/177D hub set, which was purpose-built for disc braking. There are 24 aero Sapim CX-Ray spokes, both front and rear. A cross pattern is necessary in front to counter the forces of braking. The flanges are slightly taller to work around the six-hole rotor mounts and the 17mm axle. While you can see that the spokes have a two-cross pattern, it actually possesses the lateral stiffness of a three-cross thanks to the size of the flanges and the orientation of the spokes. The benefits of the design are more aero and shorter spokes. The rotor mounting method is six-bolt. The front wheel weighs in at 800g, the rear 915g. Maximum recommended tire pressure is 125psi, which should be overkill for any tire you’d want to install on this wheel. Maximum recommended rider weight is 250lbs. For rear wheels, Zipp offers both a Campagnolo-compatible, and Shimano/SRAM-compatible cassette body. The latter comes with a spacer for 9/10/11-speed cassettes. In both cases, the 177D hub body allows you to install a SRAM XDR Driver body for super-wide range gearing. The wheel comes with quick releases and endcaps to convert the hub for thru-axle or quick-release use. The included endcaps can convert the front wheel from 100x12mm to 100x15mm to quick release. The rear has endcaps for 142x12mm and quick release. They also include a spacer to convert the cassette body from eleven-speed to ten-speed. Also included are: rim strip and a tubeless valve, both installed at the factory, and a valve core removal tool. The Zipp 404 Firecrest Carbon Clincher Tubeless Disc Brake wheelset is the road racing wheel that gives you time trial speed without disc wheel weight or crosswind issues....

ZIPP 404 FIRECREST CARBON CLINCHER REAR WHEEL
ZIPP 404 FIRECREST CARBON CLINCHER REAR WHEEL

The Zipp 404 Firecrest Carbon Clincher might look deep at 58mm,but it’s light at 1615g for the set. They’re wheels that master not only the flats, but rolling hills, and won’t catch you out on short, steep pitches. The Firecrest Carbon Clincher was a big step forward. This iteration of the 404 is faster and better still, thanks to the lessons they’ve learned in the intervening years and the trickling down of several technologies from their NSW wheels. Wheelset weight is down to 710g front, 905g rear, 615g for the set, 75g lighter than the previous iteration. Less weight means they spin up easier and are easier to hold speed when climbing. The wheels are more aero than predecessors. The shape has been tweaked: the depth remains at 58mm, but the width has been tweaked to 25mm at the brake track, with a 16.5mm internal width. The shape is better in all conditions, particularly crosswinds, thanks to the application of their ABLC SawTooth dimpling pattern, a NSW innovation, which reduces side loads in crosswind situations. Not quite down to box rim loads, but pretty close. The rim walls start at the blunt edge of the spoke side of the rim, but then gently curve outward to help keep the aerodynamics great with 25mm tires. The ShowStopper textured braking surface is another innovation that started with NWS. This is the 317 curved, vertical grooves on each side on the brake track that help move water off the surface and reduce stopping distances. In the wet or dry, this brakes as well as the best aluminum rims on the market. They also added their 77/177 hubset to the rims. The 18/24 hubs feature straight-pull Sapim CX-Sprint spokes, with the front radial and the rear two-cross The rear hub has cassette body options: a SRAM 10/11-speed cassette body, a Campagnolo-compatible 10/11-speed body, and or a SRAM XDR driver body for wider-ranging cassette options, including 1x 10-42 cassettes. The Zipp 404 Firecrest Carbon Clincher wheels come with Zipp’s Tangente Platinum Evo brake pads, rim strips, Zipp valve extenders, and quick releases. The quick releases have wide lever bodies to reduce pressure in your palm and are designed to sit nearly flush with the frame when closed. ...

ZIPP 30 COURSE TUBULAR DISC-BRAKE FRONT WHEEL
ZIPP 30 COURSE TUBULAR DISC-BRAKE FRONT WHEEL

Zipp’s carbon-rimmed disc brake wheels have been crushing it at the elite level. Not only has Jeremy Powers taken them to the top of the domestic heap, but the Cannondale cyclocross team has been using them to nip at Powers’ heels and leave the rest of the cyclocross competition behind. The Zipp 30 Corse Tubular Disc-Brake Wheel is their first aluminum-rimmed disc-brake tubular, and it is for anyone who wants sew-ups but isn’t ready for the cost of carbon. This wheel works on road bikes, adventure bikes, cyclocross bikes, and even 29ers. Anywhere you have disc brakes and want a strong, light, aero, reliable, aluminum tubular rim to hold up and shape your tires. The rim possesses a bead shape that makes the wheel tubeless-ready. The shape, with a 25mm exterior width and 26mm depth takes its shape cues from Zipp’s 202 Firecrest Carbon Clincher. The depth is paired with the width for increased air volume inside the tire, which means you can run lower pressure for greater comfort and still net out lower rolling resistance. When the rim cuts through the wind, it does so with very little effort, and the depth has little effect on crosswind stability. The hub set found here, called 77/177D, are already found on Zipp 202 and 303 Firecrest disc-brake wheels. The hubs are designed to be versatile. They have six-bolt mounting for rotors. They come with a disc-brake specific quick release, but the skewer and the hub end caps can easily be pulled by hand and swapped for thru-axle endcaps. Thus you can run either 12x100mm or 15x100mm in front and either 12x135mm or 12x142mm in the back. The axle itself has a 17mm diameter. Because of these needs, Zipp eliminated bearing pre-load and also improved the bearing shielding. These hubs take less work to maintain and roll just fine after your epic muddy cx race. All the same, the spokes are Sapim’s CX-Ray, which are the most aero spokes around, and will save you time every second of the ride. The wheels are sold separately. Each wheels comes with quick release hub end caps, thru-axle hub end caps, and Zipp skewer. When you buy the rear wheel version, it comes with either a Campagnolo-compatible 9/10/11-speed cassette body or a Shimano/SRAM-compatible cassette body with a 1.85mm spacer to run nine- or ten-speed cassettes. These can be swapped without re-dishing the wheel, and both can be pulled in favor of a SRAM XD driver body for even wider range of gearing. The 30 Course Tubular Disc-Brake is Zipp’s do-it-all tubular wheelset....

ZIPP 30 COURSE CLINCHER DISC-BRAKE FRONT WHEEL
ZIPP 30 COURSE CLINCHER DISC-BRAKE FRONT WHEEL

Zipp has been building disc-brake-specific wheels for years. Some of the earliest versions were built for the Cannondale cyclocross team and Jeremy Powers. These elite test mules helped identify strengths and weaknesses of initial designs and rode the way for the Zipp 30 Course Disc-Brake clincher. This wheel works on road bikes, adventure bikes, cyclocross bikes, and even 29ers. ZIPP 202 NSW DISC TUBELESS CLINCHER REAR WHEEL
ZIPP 202 NSW DISC TUBELESS CLINCHER REAR WHEEL

When you’re looking for an ultra-light, aero, climbing disc-brake wheel, the one you’ll turn to is the Zipp 202 NSW Disc Tubeless Clincher. This is shallow, wide rim, that is best for those times when gravitational resistance is highest, and still has the aero advantages that will increase your speed when gravitational resistance is lowest, and all other times as well. Zipp, when they decided to focus on building disc brake-specific wheels, looked at not only what they could do for the rim, but what they could do with the bikes the wheels go in. For the first part, they knew that without the need for a brake track, they could extend their dimpling all the way to the end of the rim, as they did. For the second, they realized that most road bikes with disc brakes come with enough clearance for 28mm tires, so they designed with those in mind. With the dimpling they molded their SawTooth pattern into the exterior walls. As you should know by now, SawTooth is a design of indents molded into the outside rim walls that is comprised of twelve nodes. These are designed to start working for you at speeds of 20mph and then work better when faster. They essentially change the behavior of the wind around the rim to minimize side wind pressure on the rim in crosswinds, thus making the wheel more stable at high speeds. They also tweaked the rim shape, keeping the 32mm depth the 202 is known for, but increasing the max width of the rim to 28.9mm. The result is that the tire width that is most aerodynamic is 28mm. You can go wider for rough- and off-road adventures, but probably won’t want to go narrower than 25mm. The interior of the rim has been changed as well. the internal width is 21mm, and the side walls have ridges that help hold the tire in place when pressure is low. This is to improve the interface with tubeless tire beads. No burps when running wide tires at low pressures. Factory-applied tubeless rim tape finishes the rim package. You can run these wheels with tubed tires; you’ll just need to remove the valve stem from the rim. Thanks to the need to make the rim sidewalls strong enough to handle the pressure of clincher tires, these carbon rims are super-strong. Stronger than aluminum rims, so worry not about their durability. They are race light, but training wheel tough. Sapim CX-Ray J-Bend spokes are used both front and rear to lace the rim to the hub. These spokes are light, aero, and stiff. 24 spokes, two-cross, both front and rear. These NSW wheels utilize Zipp’s Cognition hubs. The front features scalloped flanges for the spoke beds. J-bend spokes resist the twisting forces disc-braking can put on spokes. This results in less pressure on the spokes, increasing lateral stiffness and durability. The rear has a pawl design with an Axial Clutch, which reduces pawl drag by 50% when coasting, and with a 36-tooth engagement, you’re driving the wheel the moment you start pedaling. The disc-mounting method is Centerlock only. Lock ring not included. The hubs come with Zipp’s Tangente quick release skewers as well as hand-removable end caps to fit 100x12mm and 100x15mm thru-axles in front and 142x12mm rear thru-axles. The wheels weigh in at 1475g per set, 695g in front, 780g in back. The wheels, sold separately as front and rear, also come with a wheel bag, a Zipp tubeless valve factory-installed, valve core removal tool, Zipp Cognition Oil, and a freehub body spacer to take the 11-speed hub down to 10-speed if you need. The single wheel bags can be secured together if you have a pair. A SRAM/Shimano 11-speed cassette body is standard, though a SRAM XD-R driver can be swapped in. The Zipp 202 NSW Disc Tubeless Clincher is the climbing wheel that will help your disc brake bike soar like an eagle both going up and down the mountain....

ZIPP 202 FIRECREST DISC TUBELESS CLINCHER REAR WHEEL
ZIPP 202 FIRECREST DISC TUBELESS CLINCHER REAR WHEEL

Zipp has expanded their Firecrest line to include a climbing disc-brake compatible tubeless clincher wheel. The 202 Firecrest Disc Tubeless Clincher is that wheel. It’s not a mere re-naming of a 202 Firecrest, but an extensive redesign that keeps the 202 rim principles, but modifies and optimizes for not only disc brakes, but aerodynamics, and tubeless tires. The 202 is the shallowest and lightest rim of the Firecrest line. It is good for climbing, for low-speed riding, for cyclocross, and any time feel that weight savings takes a premium over aerodynamics. Before embarking on designing carbon clinchers, Zipp benchmarked impact strength of aluminum rims. They knew they had to exceed that impact strength before they’d feel ready bringing a carbon clincher to market. They exceeded and then some. The rim is disc-brake specific. Take notice of the brake track. That’s right, it’s gone and ABLC dimples go all the way up the sides for better aerodynamics. this is Zipp’s third-generation dimpling, and is specific to the wheel depth and shape. This is a new design all the way through, with not only the rim shape changed, but the material moved around. The rim remains 32mm deep, but the width has mushroomed out to 28.9mm from 25.4mm, and the internal width 21mm. As you can imagine the shape means wider tires. 25mm is as narrow as you’ll want to go, but the 28mm width offers better aerodynamics still and going even wider still offers great aerodynamics. This rim works best with wide tires. It’s also stronger. Without having to deal with the force of brakes squeezing the rim, they were able to move material around. And the strength you can rely on. Feel free to drop the tire pressure. Not only will the rim withstand whatever you’re putting in front of it, but the molded internal ridges lock tires in place, even at low pressures. The front wheel weighs in at 705g, the rear 825g. The Zipp 202 Firecrest Carbon Clincher Tubeless Disc Brake wheelset is light, aero, and tough enough for the roughest cyclocross, or gravel racing, has to offer....

ZIPP 808 FIRECREST DISC TUBELESS CLINCHER REAR WHEEL
ZIPP 808 FIRECREST DISC TUBELESS CLINCHER REAR WHEEL

If you’re looking for flat-out speed on your disc-brake road, time trial, or triathlon bike, the Zipp 808 Firecrest Disc Tubeless Clincher is the schizzle. It is wickedly fast, stable in crosswinds, and light. The depth is such that it’s like riding double discs, just so much easier. They accelerate better, handle road vibrations and potholes better, and don’t get pushed around in the wind nearly as much. They’re light enough to race on the road, and the aerodynamics are so impressive that triathletes and time trialists needn’t look for disc wheels. Some folks who race against the clock might want to pair an 808 front with a disc rear for the ultimate in speed, or a 808 rear with a 404 front to deal with crosswinds. But no matter how you choose to ride them, these are speedy. The rim is more than tough enough for off road use, but Zipp’s stated intentions was to maximize speed on the road. The blunt-edged rim shape, which Zipp embraced with the Firecrest line, is markedly better than old-school NACA-inspired airfoils. First, the wider shape works better with wider tires. Second, the blunt edge, when paired with Zipp’s dimples, makes the shape less susceptible to being pushed around in crosswinds. This Firecrest 808, which is similar, but not identical, to the rim brake version. The shape and layup has been tweaked to work better with not only disc brakes, but also wider tires. First, Zipp moved material around, because they didn’t need the brake track any longer. Second, they advanced their ABLC dimples all the way up the rim’s sides. Third, they tweaked the shape of the rim to work with even wider tires. The depth remains 82mm, the 808 standard. But the width has been narrowed slightly, to 26.4mm from 27.5mm. And the internal width has been widened slightly to 19mm. That depth means you don’t want to run a tire narrower than 23mm, and, if you want it to perform best in the wind, you’ll go with 25mm wide tires. Wider works as well, though not as aerodynamic. Zipp employs their 77/177D hub set, which was purpose-built for disc braking. There are 24 aero Sapim CX-Ray spokes, both front and rear.
